The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, with the support of Rosneft, to play Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony "Leningrad" again after 80 years

09 August 2022

Rosneft will support the concert of the Academic Symphony Orchestra at the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia as part of the unique history and music project "Seventh Symphony. Memory Score".

The project is timed to the 80th anniversary of the historic event - the siege premiere of Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony on August 9, 1942 in the Philharmonic Grand Hall of Leningrad. The performance of this composition is a unique fact in the world’s musical culture, as well as a major event during World War II.

Rosneft has been actively supporting the concert activities of the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia since 2015. This cooperation will also continue this season. The Philharmonia organizes large-scale cultural projects aimed at reviving moral and national values thanks to the Company's sponsorship.

The project "The Seventh Symphony. Memory score" combines history, music, and museum affairs. The guests were shown unique exhibits: the original symphony score started by Shostakovich in the besieged Leningrad and completed in Kuibyshev during the evacuation, a huge number of documents from the archives of the Russian Foreign Ministry related to the premieres of the symphony in London and New York, documents on the awarding of the Stalin Prize to Shostakovich in 1942 The project also includes a scientific conference with internationally renowned scholars: musicologists and historians from all over the country.

The highlight of the project will be the concert by the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, former the Leningrad Radio Committee Orchestra.
